For those who have not read the most recent announcement:
Yes — YOM is rebooting…
As we promised, we would reveal new info over time. So here it goes:
- The YOM vision and the token ecosystem will remain intact — and in fact improved upon;
- YOM announces a key partnership with Martians vs. Roughnecks;
- Andrew Pringle (Andy), also known as the “Laughing Bruddha” or simply “Cleetus”, is now officially crowned as our forward-facing leader, metaverse dictator, military general, and CEO;
- YOM brings in key developers from the old team. Yes you — @smartfish212 !
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves — first things first.
Let’s go back in time!
Last year was a rollercoaster to say the least:
- We released the first version of the YOM infrastructure and the first few metaverses got built and deployed;
- The team developed technologies that we believed would become the foundation of the metaverse;
- We distributed over >9000 hoverboards and hoverboard trails;
- The community was informed of our progress on a bi-weekly basis;
- We secured 25 contracts with key subcontractors / distribution partners;
- Had our project audited by the European Investment Commission which led us to secure their Seal of Excellence — which is only awarded to a tiny number (!) of projects that managed to pass their checks on deep-tech innovation and operational excellence. Very proud of the team.
All in all, we were ready to go — and explode!
And explode we did… But not in a good way. We were confident to secure either a 3-million-dollar grant and investment from the European Union (EIC innovation funds) or, at the very least, significantly more attention from the crypto community and VCs.
Oh boy, were we wrong!
- Solana was proclaimed dead — a self-fulfilling prophecy which on itself killed off many other Solana based tokens and investors alike;
- Metaverse was proclaimed even more dead: traditional VCs decided to stay away from metaverse as far as possible (if only Zuck had built a better metaverse!);
- The EIC commissioner (EU representative) blocked our grant at the very final stage due to our “blockchain” component — which would not align with their vision of the EU in spite of their strategy to so-called web4.
Unfortunately, all we could do at that moment was to abandon ship, close the accounting books, and hand our code, products, and token ecosystem to the largest beneficiary of all of this, the Dutch government.
Then nothing seemed to happen for about 6 months (I’m saving you here with lengthy stories). Until… well, we announced that YOM is hitting the reset button!
What’s with Andy?
Andy is a seasoned entrepreneur with a 20-year track record of igniting innovation, Andy’s expertise extends beyond his own ventures. As founder of Martians vs Roughnecks, a well-established NFT project with a vibrant community and bold aspirations, he led the project to a sell-out success in 2022. Now, armed with a network of strategic partnerships and an unwavering hunger for the future, Andy’s focus is clear: further propel YOM to the forefront of the Web3 revolution.
All in all, Andy’s ambitious goals and infectious energy will inject renewed opportunities into the platform, setting the stage for an exciting future for both YOM and our community.
What‘s Andy going to do differently?
Over the last three years, we learned from our talks with clients and partners that creative intellectual property brands / companies (e.g. Disney, Banijay, Marvel) are used to earning royalties on broadcasters and/or licensees for the usage and monetization of their IP (rather than doing the monetization, advertising and broadcasting themselves!).
Therefore, we believe that integrating with these broadcasters and licencees is the crucial missing piece in pushing the metaverse forward!
Andy’s appointment will bring increased focus on the commercialization and the acquisition of these IP owners and broadcasters, with specific focus on the entertainment, creative and media industries.
This pivot is going to be essential because we believe that the adoption of metaverse hinges in the hands of creative IP and broadcasters.
What does this mean for the product?
To recap, YOM streamlines the creation and delivery process for white label metaverses, allowing companies to deploy and operate their own proprietary premium metaverse. These high-quality, easily embeddable metaverses can be streamed from any webpage or app without installing/loading times, hardware requirements or site performance hits.
These metaverses are run on a network of gamer PC GPUs, replacing expensive centralized data centers and server infrastructures with a dispersed grid of cost-efficient gaming hardware, leading to low latency and affordable top-tier gaming for all. Yes — no more need for Playstation or Xbox.
Moving forward, we plan to integrate as many broadcasting platforms into our network as possible — thereby adding more demand and eyeballs to the network, which is crucial for IP owners to secure their royalties.
… and the token?
The YOM token ($YOM) is integral to this system, and is here to stay. It rewards gamers for contributing their computing resources, aligning the token’s value with GPU power rather than traditional currencies. $YOM facilitates a P2P market for metaverse streaming and supports new revenue models on the platform.
For this P2P network, the community continues to be one of YOM’s highest priorities. In recognition of this, we are committed to enhancing our engagement with the community through more frequent updates and increased transparency — hopefully resulting in more and better memes!
