As the year 2022 comes to a close, we at YOM are proud to have made significant progress toward our goal of creating a commercially sustainable and open metaverse. Our infrastructure and SDK, set to be released in the coming months, will enable creators, agencies, and brands to create photorealistic and engaging Web3 experiences that can be accessed from ultra-thin devices via any website or channel.

Composability x interoperability

Our goal is to create a metaverse that goes beyond chat rooms and offers immersive and interactive experiences. To achieve this, we are combining the ability to create standalone, high-quality experiences like those found on Steam with the ability for content to flow seamlessly across different experiences and ecosystems like those found on Decentraland and The Sandbox. At YOM, we are striving to bring the two qualities “composability” and “interoperability” together.

P2P metaverse powered by the YOM token

In order to optimize the metaverse for cost-efficiency and performance, we will be setting up a peer-to-peer network of “beacons” starting in 2023. These beacons will be gamers who use their own computers to render the metaverse in real-time, and will be able to earn YOM tokens by participating in the network and helping to render the metaverse.

Product development in 2022

Here is an overview of all the highlights in terms of product development at YOM over the past year.

Q1 (January-March 2022)

This quarter, we made significant strides in our pixel streaming capabilities by completing a proof of concept. We also set up a source control system to better manage our codebase. In addition, we developed a marketplace for non-fungible tokens (NFTs), which allows users to buy and sell unique virtual assets. Finally, we set up our first pixel streamed experience.

Q2 (April-June 2022)

In the second quarter, we focused on improving the functionality of our peer-to-peer infrastructure called the Holodeck. We implemented an avatar inventory system based on the Solana wallet, which allows users to access their virtual items and assets from within the Holodeck. We also added the ability to airdrop items to users from Unreal, which expands the possibilities for interactive experiences within the platform. In addition, we implemented physics for virtual items from the Solana wallet, allowing users to interact with and manipulate virtual objects in a more realistic way.

Q3 (July-September 2022)

During the third quarter, we set up an automated build and deploy pipeline for experiences, which streamlines the process of releasing new experiences on the Holodeck. We also added multiplayer functionality, which allows users to interact with each other within virtual spaces. We released a tech demo of the Holodeck, which demonstrated the platform’s capabilities to the public. Finally, we released our software development kit (SDK) along with a starter pack and documentation, making it easier for developers to create and publish their own experiences on the Holodeck.

Q4 (October-December 2022)

In the final quarter of the year, we focused on improving the user experience and adding new features to the Holodeck. We implemented a system that allows guest users to enter metaspaces using a friendly name, making it easier for people to join the platform without having a web3 wallet. We also added multiplayer voice chat functionality, allowing users to communicate with each other within virtual spaces. In addition, we introduced YOM avatars, which are customizable virtual avatars that users can use to represent themselves within the platform. Finally, we implemented portalling, which allows users to seamlessly travel between different metaspaces and other virtual worlds.
